Some of my favorite teacher things

  • Air Fresheners: My first classroom had no air conditioning and only one window that                           opened. When you have 25 middle schoolers piling into your room                               after running the mile it is clear you need to have someway to make it                           less smelly! If your school allows it get the plug ins (I always go with                             the cotton or fresh linen smell --just like clean laundry), or the aerosol                           cans are good too. Just be careful with the sprays -- a little goes a                               long way.
  • Microfiber Cloths: A coworker once shared her secret to a perfectly clean dry erase                             board-- cheap microfiber cloths. I promise once you use these you                               will never go back to a traditional eraser. Just be warned they soak                               up the color from the markers -- so they will look pretty gross
  • Golf Pencils: This way when a kid needs a pencil you can offer them one. They will                               quickly learn that tiny pencils without erasers are no fun in math class                           and hopefully remember their  tomorrow.
  • Stickers: Even in middle school (and high school to be honest) kids love stickers! I                               always put a sticker on A and B work. You can even encourage your                             students to keep track of how many they earn by sticking them on                               their notebooks. I get most of mine at Michaels for $1 (and don't                                   forget to show off your school ID for a discount!)
